Connecting rod cap bolt 3/8" x 24

For L-134 and F-134 engines

Connecting rod cap bolt with 3/8" diameter and 24 thread for the Willys L-134 and F-134 four-cylinder engines. This bolt secures the connecting rod cap to the connecting rod and is suitable for later production engines with gear-driven timing and certain late chain-driven versions.

Thread

3/8" x 24

Application

L-134 and F-134 engine

Type

Connecting rod cap bolt

Quantity required

8 pieces per engine

Features

  • Thread 3/8" diameter x 24 TPI
  • For connecting rod cap attachment
  • Used from engine serial number 89737
  • Replacement for later production L-134 engines
  • 8 pieces required per vehicle

★ Reproduction to original specification for correct restoration of later Willys and Jeep four-cylinder engines.

Application

Suitable for late versions of the Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), Hotchkiss M201, Willys CJ-2A (1945-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953), CJ-3B (1953-1964) and M38 (1950-1952) fitted with L-134 or F-134 engine. Used from engine serial number 89737 and in all engines with gear-to-gear timing. For early MB/GPW with chain-driven camshaft, the 7/16" bolt is required.

Installation notes

Please note: early chain-driven Go Devil engines use 7/16" x 20 bolts. Check your engine version before ordering. Connecting rod caps are numbered and must remain paired with the corresponding connecting rod. Lubricate the thread with engine oil before assembly. Torque the bolts to factory specifications and use an angle-torque method if possible.

Compatibility

NOT compatible with early Willys MB and Ford GPW engines with chain-driven camshaft — these require 7/16" diameter bolts. The changeover occurred around serial number 89737 and early 1947 during CJ-2A production. Engines with gear-to-gear timing always use the 3/8" bolt. If in doubt: measure the diameter of your existing bolts.

Historical context

The L-134 'Go Devil' engine underwent various technical modifications during production, including the transition from 7/16" to smaller 3/8" connecting rod bolts for improved clearance and weight saving. This change was implemented during later wartime production and during the transition to civilian CJ models with gear-driven camshaft.
