Piston Pin Lock Ring Set

For L-134 and F-134 engine

Essential spring clips for securing the piston pin (wrist pin) in the piston. These lock rings prevent the piston pin from sliding out of the piston during the combustion cycle. Supplied as complete set for one engine overhaul.

Material

Hardened spring steel

Type

C-clip lock ring

Application

4-cylinder L-134 and F-134 engines

Set contents

8 pieces (2 per cylinder)

Features

  • Spring-hardened steel for reliable locking
  • Suitable for all four cylinders
  • Replaceable during every engine revision
  • Precise fit in piston groove
  • Critical safety component

★ During engine maintenance, piston pin lock rings must always be replaced with new ones. These clips are subject to fatigue and must never be reused.

Installation notes

Install with the opening at 6 or 12 o'clock position. Ensure the lock ring clicks fully into the groove and sits flat all round. Check before fitting that the piston groove is clean and undamaged. Do not use screwdrivers that may damage the aluminium. Each piston requires 2 lock rings (one either side of the piston pin).

Compatibility

Fits all Willys L-134 and F-134 engines with standard piston pin configuration. Suitable for both connecting rods cylinder 1-3 (WO640071) and cylinder 2-4 (WO640072). Not interchangeable with spiral spring-type lock rings — use only the type for which the piston is machined.

Historical context

The C-clip lock ring was the standard method for piston pin retention on WWII and post-war Willys engines. These simple yet effective spring clips have proved themselves over millions of miles under demanding military and civilian conditions.
