Tracta Bushing

For front axle

Bronze bushing for Tracta-type front axle. The Tracta joint was one of three constant-velocity joints (alongside Bendix and Rzeppa) used during WWII and in the early CJ period. This bushing is an essential component for correct centring and operation of the Tracta joint in the wheel hub.

Material

Bronze

Application

Front axle Tracta-type

Joint type

Tracta constant-velocity joint

Function

Centring and axle shaft bearing

Features

  • Bronze construction for durability
  • Essential for correct Tracta joint operation
  • For front axle with Tracta-type drive shaft
  • Replacement for worn original bushing
  • Precise dimensions to original specification

★ Replacement bronze bushing for Tracta-type front axle — necessary for correct centring of the constant-velocity joint and free wheel rotation at all steering angles.

Installation notes

The Tracta bushing must be correctly centred in the wheel hub housing. With incorrectly adjusted or worn bushings, the wheel may rotate with difficulty at extreme steering angles. Correct shimming is essential — measure the clearance between shaft sleeve and hub flange with the wheel on full lock, and compensate with shims beneath the drive flange.

Compatibility

Tracta joints require specific bushings that differ from Bendix and Rzeppa types. Tracta axles use a large bronze bushing for centring, whilst Rzeppa axles are self-centring and require a different arrangement. Do not confuse these — only use on vehicles fitted with Tracta-type axles.

Historical context

The Tracta constant-velocity joint was one of three CV-joint types used during WWII on MB/GPW jeeps, alongside the more common Bendix (at Willys) and Rzeppa (primarily Ford). Tracta axles were applied sporadically and are now relatively rare.
