Differential Spider Gear Assembly

For Dana axles

Complete differential spider gear assembly for the reconstruction of your front and rear differential. This set contains all gears (spider gears), bevelled and flat thrust washers and the cross pin required for a professional overhaul of your Dana axle.

Type

Differential spider gear set

Application

Front and rear axle

Dana models

Dana 23/25/27/44

Set contents

Gears, thrust washers and cross pin

Features

  • Complete set with all required components
  • For standard open differential
  • Contains spider gears, pinion mate gears and thrust washers
  • Cross pin included
  • Suitable for various Dana axle models

★ Essential component for differential reconstruction. The spider gears distribute power between the wheels and enable cornering without loss of traction.

Application

Depending on the Dana axle model fitted in your vehicle. Dana 23/25/27 were used in front and rear axles of various military and civilian jeep models from the period 1941-1971. Dana 44 was used in later models and heavier-duty versions. Check which Dana model is fitted in your vehicle (usually stamped on the differential housing).

Installation notes

Installation requires removal of the differential from the axle housing. Preferably use an axle housing spreader to prevent damage to the cast iron bearing surfaces. Adjust the backlash correctly after installation according to the specifications for your Dana model. Ensure all thrust washers are correctly positioned and lubricate all components during assembly.

Compatibility

Important: different Dana models use different spider gear sets. Dana 23, 25 and 27 use the same set (interchangeable between front and rear). Dana 44 uses a different version with different dimensions and spline count. Dana 41 and Dana 53 have their own specifications. Always check the Dana model number on your axle housing before ordering.

Historical context

The Dana/Spicer axles formed the backbone of four-wheel drive in WWII military vehicles. Dana and Spicer are the same company – Spicer manufactured the internal components whilst Dana was the brand name for the complete axle assembly.
