Front and rear axle breather plug Dana

For Dana 23, 25, 27, 41 and 44 axles

Breather plug for front and rear axle differential housing. This plug screws into the differential cover and ensures pressure compensation during heating and cooling of the axle oil. Essential component for correct operation of the drivetrain.

Material

Steel

Application

Front and rear axle

Dana axles

Dana 23, 25, 27, 41, 44

Mounting

In differential cover

Features

  • Suitable for front and rear axles
  • Fits Dana 23, 25, 27, 41 and 44 differentials
  • Screws into differential cover
  • Ensures pressure compensation
  • Prevents leakage through oil seals

★ Universal component for military jeeps and early CJ models with Dana axles. Essential for correct differential ventilation.

Application

Fits military jeeps and early civilian models with Dana axles. Standard fitment on front and rear axles of vehicles built between 1941 and early 1970s.

Installation notes

Screws directly into the differential cover, usually halfway up on the right-hand side of the cover. Ensure the plug does not become blocked by dirt or oil deposits. When used in extreme conditions (deep wading), an extension hose may be considered.

Compatibility

Fits all Dana 23, 25, 27, 41 and 44 front and rear axle differentials. NOT suitable for later AMC 20 axles or newer Dana models with different breather systems.

Historical context

Standard breather system on WWII and early post-war military jeeps. The plug prevents water and dirt from being drawn in through the oil seals during temperature fluctuations.
