★ Complete shim set with various thicknesses for professional adjustment of king pin bearings to factory specifications.
Application
Suitable for vehicles with Dana 25 front axle (1941-1965) and Dana 27 front axle (1966-1971). Note: early models (MB, GPW, early CJ-2A) require shims both top and bottom; later models (late CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-3B, M38, M38A1) use shims at the top only.
Installation notes
Position shims between king pin cap and steering knuckle. Adjust until rotational torque of 12-16 lbs (approx. 5-7.5 kg) is achieved. Early king pins (MB/GPW/early CJ-2A): shim evenly top AND bottom. Late king pins (from late CJ-2A onwards): shim top only, NOT bottom. Begin with equal thicknesses and adjust until correct rotational torque is achieved.
Compatibility
NOTE the difference between early and late versions: MB, GPW and early CJ-2A king pins must be shimmed top AND bottom. Late CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-3B, M38, M38A1 king pins are shimmed at the TOP only. Check your king pin type before installation. Fits Dana 25 (up to 1965) and Dana 27 (from 1966) front axles.
Historical context
The king pin connection was the pivot point of the entire steering system on military jeeps and early civilian variants. Correct adjustment with shims was crucial for reliable off-road performance and was regularly checked during military inspection intervals.
