Application
Fits Willys MB and Ford GPW built between 1941-1945. Also suitable for Hotchkiss M201. Note: differences exist between MB and GPW versions (GPW hooks are heavier duty and marked with 'F' stamp).
Installation notes
The hooks mount onto the 4 studs (threaded pins) welded into the hat channel on the inside of the rear panel — 2 studs per side. The studs do not penetrate through the rear panel but terminate inside the hollow section. Per hook: slide the hook over the stud, fit the flat washer, then the retaining ring, and secure with the 1/4-20 NC nut. If studs are missing: these must be welded from the inside into the hat channel.
Compatibility
Universal for MB and GPW — both manufacturers used the same mounting method. Note: GPW hooks are heavier built than MB hooks. For M201, these hooks are also applicable. Not compatible with later civilian CJ models without modifications to the rear panel.
Historical context
The rear seat in military jeeps was designed as a folding construction to quickly create cargo space. The J-hooks were essential to prevent the backrest from folding forwards during off-road driving, which was dangerous for passengers.
