The original panel must be completely removed by drilling out or grinding the spot welds around the wheelhouse and the connections with floor and side panels. The new panel is positioned and fixed by spot welding. For a less critical restoration, the panel can also be placed over the existing panel and bonded, provided all rust is first removed and treated with anti-corrosion coating.

Until late 1943, Ford produced its own bodies with specific Ford features (rectangular toolbox lock depression, ribbed toolbox lid). From 1944 onwards, 'composite' bodies were used, built by American Central Manufacturing for both Ford and Willys. Check before fitting whether the panel suits your specific body version.
