★ Essential component for safe mounting of combat rims. Always use eight bolts per rim and tighten with a torque wrench according to specification.
Application
Suitable for split combat rims on Willys MB (from serial number MB120700 onwards) and Ford GPW. Combat rims are characterised by eight bolts connecting the inner and outer rim halves.
Installation notes
Always fit using a torque wrench at 60-70 ft. lbs (81-95 Nm). Mark the rim halves before disassembly so they can be fitted in the same position. Use hexagon nut A-5471. Avoid using anti-seize compounds — this can lead to over-torquing. Completely deflate the tyre before removing the rim nuts.
Compatibility
NOT suitable for early Willys MB with solid disc rims (slat grille MB up to serial number MB120700). These had standard 4" drop-centre rims without split construction. Only applicable to later MB and all GPW with 16" combat rims.
Historical context
The combat rim was introduced during WWII to enable faster rim changes in the field. The two-piece construction made it possible to replace a tyre without special equipment, a crucial advantage in combat conditions.
