Canvas Headlight Covers

Set of 2 pieces

Canvas headlight covers as originally issued with WWII military jeeps. These covers completely enclose the headlights and were primarily used to prevent glare reflection from the glass during daytime, making vehicles less visible to enemy observation. In the field, they were sometimes modified with a slit for blackout driving light.

Material

Canvas (cotton) with elastic

Dimensions

Ø approx. 18 cm per piece

Application

Willys MB, Ford GPW, M201, M38

Contents

Set of 2 pieces (left + right)

Features

  • Made from heavy-duty canvas material
  • Elastic band for easy installation
  • Completely covers headlight reflectors
  • Repro according to original design
  • Diameter approx. 18 cm per piece

★ Reproductions manufactured to original WWII specifications. These headlight covers were supplied as standard with military jeeps and were part of the basic equipment alongside windscreen and wing covers.

Application

Suitable for Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), Hotchkiss M201 and M38. Fit standard 7-inch headlights as installed on WWII and post-war military jeeps.

Installation notes

The cover is simply pulled over the headlight and stays in place with the elastic band. No tools required. Note: prolonged use with headlights on may cause overheating — originally intended for anti-glare protection during daytime, not for driving with lights.

Compatibility

Fit standard 7-inch military headlights. Not suitable for civilian CJ models with different headlight mounting. Some collectors cut a slit in the cover to replicate a field modification for blackout driving light, but this was not a factory specification.

Historical context

Canvas headlight covers were issued as standard with WWII jeeps to prevent reflection from headlight glass, making vehicles less conspicuous to enemy air reconnaissance. In the field, they were sometimes improvised into blackout driving lights by cutting a slit or hole, until the dedicated blackout marker lights were fitted.
