Crash Pad Canvas - Set of 2

Canvas covering with foam filling

Set of two canvas crash pads (also known as hip pads) for mounting to the body side panels. These padded canvas elements were mounted at hip height of the driver and passenger, as protection against contact with the metal body. Supplied as a pair (left and right) with foam filling.

Mounting to body side panels

Metal backing plates sold separately

Features

  • Set of 2 pieces (driver and passenger side)
  • Canvas covering with integrated foam filling

  • Metal backing plates not included
  • Fixing screws not included

★ High-quality reproduction to original military specification. The metal backing plates and fixing hardware are available separately.

Application

Suitable for Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945) and Hotchkiss M201 (post-war). The crash pads are mounted to the inside of the rear side panels, between the door opening and the rear of the vehicle, at the height of the front seats.

Installation notes

The crash pads are mounted to metal backing plates (sold separately) which are fixed to the body with screws. Installation runs over the vertical reinforcement rail (hat channel) of the body. Preferably use the original slotted truss head screws. Positioning and drilling of the fixing holes requires precision — it is advisable to use a template or temporary clamps.

Compatibility

Fits Willys MB, Ford GPW and Hotchkiss M201. Please note: this concerns only the canvas covering with filling. The metal backing plates and fixing screws must be ordered separately. For correct installation, the metal plates with spacers for the hat channel are strongly recommended over wooden backing plates.

Historical context

The crash pads or hip pads were a safety feature on WWII jeeps to prevent injury from contact with the metal body during cornering or cross-country use.
