- For Ford GPW and Hotchkiss M201 type handbrake
- Phosphated finish for corrosion protection
- Part of cam jaw assembly
- OE-specification reproduction
★ Correct reproduction of the original handbrake shoe return spring, manufactured to original specifications for the external handbrake mechanism.
Application
Ford GPW (1941-1945) with external handbrake system and Hotchkiss M201 (1955-1966). Note: this concerns the external contracting handbrake system mounted on the transmission, not the late internal expanding handbrake system.
Installation notes
Fit the spring to the handbrake shoe (cam jaw) so that it retracts the shoe to rest position. Check after installation that the handbrake fully releases when the handbrake lever is released. Lightly grease the pivot points with heat-resistant grease.
Compatibility
This spring fits ONLY Ford GPW and Hotchkiss M201 with the external handbrake system. NOT suitable for Willys MB with late internal expanding handbrake (after September 1944, from MB 37337 onwards). Also not for CJ-2A, CJ-3A, M38 or CJ-3B — these models have a different handbrake system.
Historical context
The external contracting handbrake system was fitted to all Ford GPWs and early Willys MBs until September 1944. Hotchkiss adopted this design for their licence-built M201, manufactured from 1955 to 1966 for the French Army.
