Installation notes

Attach the spring to the adjusting side of the hand brake shoe and the mounting point on the backing plate. Check that the spring has sufficient tension to fully retract the brake shoe. Also inspect the second spring (anchor side A-10337) when replacing.

Compatibility

Only for vehicles with transfer case-mounted external hand brake (external band-type hand brake at rear of transfer case). Not to be confused with the anchor side spring (A-10337). Both springs are required for correct hand brake operation.

Historical context

The transfer case-mounted external hand brake was standard on WWII Jeeps and early civilian models until the late 1960s. This type of hand brake operated on a ribbed drum mounted at the rear of the transfer case.
