Application
Fits Ford GP, GPA, GPW and Willys MB (slat grille and standard MB) from WWII period (1941-1945). Also applicable to early CJ-2A (1946-1949 up to serial number 215649) and M38 (1950-1952) with comparable brake system. Hotchkiss M201 uses identical configuration.
Installation notes
The copper sealing washers (crush washers) are for single use only — always replace when dismounting. Place one washer between master cylinder and Y-fitting, and one on the other side. Thread the bolt (637605) through the fitting into the master cylinder. The brake light switch mounts on the end of this bolt. Ensure correct positioning of the Y-fitting: one outlet towards front (left along frame), one towards rear (through or along frame depending on MB/GPW variant).
Compatibility
Note: this kit fits ONLY vehicles with round reservoir-type master cylinder with 3 1/8" to 3 1/4" mounting distance. Late CJ-2A (from serial number 215649), CJ-3A, CJ-3B, CJ-5 use a different master cylinder type with different mounting configuration. Not compatible with later M38A1 dual-reservoir system.
Historical context
The brass Y-fitting was standard on all WWII jeeps and early post-war civilian models. Original production by Wagner (part number F-5727 for fitting, F-602 and F-603 for washers). The system distributes brake fluid to both axles via a single master cylinder — a robust and reliable design that has survived millions of miles of military service.
