Master Cylinder Heat Shield

Heat shield with insulation material

Steel protective plate mounted above the master cylinder to protect it from heat of the exhaust manifold. This part is often missing or has disappeared due to corrosion on original vehicles. Fitted with heat-resistant insulation material on the underside.

Material

Steel with heat-resistant insulation

Part no.

A647 / WOA647

Vehicle

Ford GPW, Willys MB, CJ-2A, M38

Application

Master cylinder with front threaded mounting hole

Features

  • Protects the master cylinder against overheating
  • Steel construction with heat-resistant material
  • Original type reproduction
  • Fits early master cylinder with front threaded mounting hole
  • Replaces often missing or corroded original part

★ High-quality reproduction of this often missing protective part, essential for correct operation of the braking system.

Application

Ford GPW (1942-1945), Willys MB (1941-1945), Hotchkiss M201, early CJ-2A (1945-1946 up to serial number 215649) and M38 with early master cylinder type. Exclusively for master cylinders with front threaded and rear unthreaded mounting hole at 3⅛ inch centre distance.

Installation notes

Mounts with bracket and tie-bar above the master cylinder. The heat shield protects the brake fluid against overheating from the nearby exhaust manifold. Note: only suitable for early master cylinder type with front threaded mounting hole. Check before fitting that your master cylinder meets this specification.

Compatibility

NOT suitable for late CJ-2A (after serial number 215649), CJ-3A, CJ-3B or late M38 with both unthreaded mounting holes. These later models use a different type of master cylinder and require an adapted heat shield.

Historical context

The master cylinder of WWII jeeps was located directly next to the hot exhaust manifold, making a heat shield necessary to prevent boiling of the brake fluid. This part is absent on many restored vehicles.
