Brake light switch master cylinder

For mounting on master cylinder front outlet

Pressure-activated brake light switch that screws directly into the front outlet of the master cylinder. The switch activates the brake lights when pressure builds up in the braking system. Essential component for properly functioning brake lights on vintage jeeps.

Mounting

In master cylinder front outlet via outlet bolt

Type

Pressure switch with tapered thread

Connection

Bullet terminal (solid pin)

Application

WWII and civilian jeeps with frame-mounted master cylinder

Features

  • Screws directly into master cylinder front outlet
  • Solid pin (bullet) terminal for wiring
  • Pressure-activated switch
  • Suitable for 6V and 24V systems
  • Reproduction part to original specifications

★ This brake light switch mounts on the outlet bolt at the front of the master cylinder and replaces defective original switches.

Application

The brake light switch is used on vehicles in the categories in which this product is placed: MB/GPW (1941-1945), CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-3B and M38. Fits all models with the early-style frame-mounted master cylinder with threaded front outlet.

Installation notes

The switch screws into the front outlet of the master cylinder, through the brass Y-fitting. The outlet bolt has a thread at the front specifically for the brake light switch. Use the original female bullet terminal connector from the wiring for connection.

Compatibility

This switch is the solid pin/bullet terminal version. For later models with nail head terminals, a different type is required. Note: when converting to dual reservoir master cylinder, an inline switch must be used, this switch does not fit there.

Historical context

The brake light switch on the master cylinder was standard from early WWII production and remained in use until the 1960s. A common problem when brake lights fail is a defective switch, which can be replaced relatively easily.
