For Dana 18 transfer case mounted hand brake

Material

Pressed steel

Finish

Untreated (primer and paint required)

Mounting location

Dana 18 transfer case (rear)

Brake type

Hand brake / parking brake internal

Features

  • Complete brake backing plate for transfer case mounted hand brake
  • Suitable for Dana 18 transfer case with internal parking brake
  • Prevents common damage to lower edge
  • Pressed steel with correct mounting holes
  • Requires primer and finish paint before fitting

★ High-quality reproduction of this critical hand brake component. Often missing or damaged on used vehicles, making correct hand brake operation impossible.

Application

Late Willys MB (with Dana 18 transfer case), CJ-2A (1946-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953), M38 (1950-1952), CJ-3B (1953-1964), early CJ-5, and 4×4 Willys Truck and Station Wagon models fitted with transfer case mounted hand brake. Not suitable for M38A1 (uses different system).

Installation notes

Mounts directly to the rear of the Dana 18 transfer case. Fit brake shoes, springs and adjustment components to the plate before installation. Plate must be primed and painted (preferably OD green for military vehicles). Ensure correct gasket between plate and transfer case. Check hand brake cable free play after fitting.

Compatibility

ONLY for vehicles with Dana 18 transfer case and internal hand brake. Not compatible with early MB/GPW with chain hand brake on transmission. M38A1 uses a completely different hand brake backing plate system. Early CJ-5 up to approximately 1971 OK, later CJ-5 with Dana 20 transfer case uses different design.

Historical context

The Dana 18 transfer case mounted hand brake was introduced on late production Willys MB and remained in service until the early 1970s on civilian and military jeeps. This plate is often found missing or heavily damaged due to impact or corrosion.
