★ Supplied in red primer — ready for final finishing in your preferred colour.

Application

This cross tube is suitable for restoration of early Willys frames where the original front crossmember is damaged, rusted or removed. Early CJ-2A frames (1946) may also have used this tubular variant, depending on serial number and production period.

Installation notes

The cross tube is welded between the frame rails at radiator position. The ends may need to be flattened or adapted to fit correctly between the C-section profiles of the frame rails. Use the mounting tabs to position the radiator correctly and weld the tube at multiple points (top, bottom, inside the rail and at the tabs). Ensure the frame is correctly aligned before final welding — preferably use an alignment jig or measure from a comparable vehicle.

Compatibility

NOTE: Ford GPW frames use a square (U-shaped) crossmember that is riveted — NOT this tubular variant. Willys MB frames do have the characteristic round/tubular cross tube. Later CJ-2A frames (after approx. 1948) may have a different crossmember with integrated steering lever support. Always check your original frame before ordering.

Historical context

The tubular front frame crossmember was characteristic of Willys-produced MB frames during WWII. Ford GPW frames, by contrast, had a square, riveted construction — one of the few visible differences between the two manufacturers.
