Application
Suitable for Willys MB (1941-1945). The MB chassis has a characteristic round (tubular) front crossmember below the radiator, unlike the Ford GPW chassis which has a square, inverted U-shaped crossmember. Both types are mechanically compatible with MB and GPW bodies and components, but this frame follows the original Willys construction.
Installation notes
This is a bare chassis — body, engine, transmission, axles and suspension are not included. During assembly, check that all mounting points correspond with your body type (early/late MB, ACM Type 1/Type 2, or composite body). Willys MB chassis were originally welded; modern reproductions often use robotic welding for better consistency. Applying primer and paint before assembly is strongly recommended.
Compatibility
Willys MB chassis is recognisable by: round front crossmember (tube), open interior of frame rails, serial number plate on inside of left frame rail behind bumper. Ford GPW chassis has: square (inverted U) front crossmember, closed ('boxed') interior with lightening holes, serial number stamped on top of left frame rail in engine bay. Despite these differences, all MB/GPW parts are mechanically interchangeable.
Historical context
The Willys MB was produced from November 1941 to September 1945, with a total of 361,339 units. The chassis formed the backbone of the most-produced military vehicle of WWII and was designed to absorb part of the shocks through flexibility, in addition to the springs and shock absorbers.
