★ Pressed steel support bracket, essential component for correct mounting of the 2-stud spare tyre carrier.

Application

For vehicles fitted with the 2-stud (two-stud) spare tyre carrier. On Willys MB this system was introduced from mid-1943 (approximately serial number 260000), on Ford GPW from October 1943. The support bracket is required in this configuration to carry the weight of the spare tyre — the 2-stud carrier itself only prevents tilting.

Installation notes

The bracket is fastened to the rear panel with 2 bolts (5/16" x 5/8" UNC) and to the rear frame cross member with 2 longer bolts (5/16" x 1-1/4" UNC). Check that the rear panel and frame have the correct pre-drilled holes for this configuration. Early vehicles with 3-stud system do not have these holes.

Compatibility

ONLY for vehicles with 2-stud spare tyre carrier (late 1943-1945). NOT compatible with 3-stud system (1941-mid 1943) — that system does not require a support bracket due to the more rigid 3-point mounting. The 2 threaded ends version (WOA2359-2) is standard; there is also a 3 threaded ends version (WOA2359-3) for extra strength.

Historical context

The transition from 3-stud to 2-stud spare tyre carrier took place in 1943 as a production optimisation. The new system required this support bracket to carry the weight, whilst the carrier itself only prevents tilting.
