Complete clutch disc – soft touch B&B

5 inch with modern diaphragm pressure plate

Complete clutch disc set with modern soft touch diaphragm pressure plate following Borg & Beck principle. This version combines the reliability of original specifications with contemporary ease of use: lighter pedal feel with equivalent pressure plate pressure. Suitable for restorations and daily use.

Diameter

5 inch (215 mm)

Type

Soft touch diaphragm

Principle

Borg & Beck compatible

Set contains

Clutch disc + pressure plate

Features

  • Modern diaphragm spring instead of original coil springs
  • Lighter pedal feel than original version
  • Improved modulation at take-up
  • No modifications required to release bearing or fork
  • Direct-fit replacement for standard 8.5" clutch

The soft touch diaphragm version delivers a noticeably lighter and more comfortable pedal feel than the original coil spring pressure plate, without compromising pressure plate pressure. Ideal for both authentic restorations and daily driving.

Application

Fits all vehicles with the standard 8.5 inch (215 mm) clutch and L-134 or F-134 four-cylinder engine. Note: not suitable for early 8 inch clutches (very early MB/GPW until approximately late 1941).

Installation notes

Mount the clutch disc with the raised hub towards the transmission side. Use an alignment tool to position the disc correctly before securing the pressure plate. Tighten the pressure plate bolts in a cross pattern according to original torque specifications. Always check for oil leaks at crankshaft seal and input shaft seal before installation — oil on the friction lining reduces friction and causes slipping.

Compatibility

NOT suitable for very early MB/GPW with 8 inch clutch (up to approximately serial number MB-25000 / GPW-11000). From the change to 8.5 inch (late 1941) through all later models with L-134 or F-134 engine. No modifications required to existing release bearing, fork or bellcrank.

Historical context

The original WWII jeeps and early civilian models used a Borg & Beck-type pressure plate with coil springs and three levers. This modern soft touch variant replaces the coil springs with a diaphragm spring, as applied in later production vehicles from the 1970s onwards, for lighter pedal feel and improved durability.
