★ Authentic component from the original WW2 jeep tool kit. The design of this jack continued in use after the war until 1971 on various Willys and Jeep models.
Application
Willys MB (1941-1945) and Ford GPW (1941-1945). The jack design was also used post-war on M38, CJ-2A, CJ-3A and later models until 1971.
Installation notes
The jack is operated by inserting the long end of the wheel spanner into the round opening on top of the T-shaped section. Through ratchet movements (left-right) the jack raises or lowers depending on the position of the rotatable selector. The selector has UP and DOWN markings — it is pulled out, rotated and released again to switch from raising to lowering.
Compatibility
Note: the round opening on top is characteristic of military jeep jacks. Civilian car jacks have a flat slot and are not compatible. Very early slat-grille MB and script Ford GPW jeeps possibly had a scissors jack — this screw jack became standard from mid-1942. Dimensions collapsed approximately 16-17 cm high, extended approximately 40 cm. Base plate approximately 10 x 15 cm.
Historical context
This screw jack was standard issue with the tool kit of every WW2 Willys MB and Ford GPW jeep. The robust and reliable design proved so successful that it remained in production until the early 1970s for military and civilian Jeep models.
