Application
Intended for mounting military radio equipment in WWII jeeps according to Technical Manual TM 11-2715 ('Installation of Radio Equipment in Truck, ¼ Ton 4x4'). The FT-419 and FT-420 support legs are used in combination with the FT-250 radio mount for BC-620 (SCR-510) or BC-659 (SCR-610) radio sets. The legs mount on the wheel arches in the rear section of the jeep.
Installation notes
Attachment to the top of the wheel arches. Installation requires drilling mounting holes in the floor pan according to specifications from TM 11-2715. Due to age and body panel shifts, minor discrepancies may occur between floor pan and wheel arches — use rubber shims if necessary to fill any gaps and prevent rattling noises. Check before drilling that no wiring or other components are located beneath the drill points.
Compatibility
FT-419 and FT-420 are specifically designed for installation in WWII jeeps and do NOT fit other vehicles. Both support legs are identical in dimensions and work together with the FT-250 radio mount. In 98% of cases the mounting fits directly, but on older vehicles with body distortions, rubber shims may be necessary for correct fitment.
Historical context
Developed during WWII for mounting military radio equipment in ¼-ton 4x4 trucks. The FT-250 mounting set with FT-419/FT-420 support legs formed part of the standard radio installation as described in TM 11-2715, the official installation manual of the War Department from 1944.
