Drive Flange Hub Puller

Specialised tool for front axle disassembly

Specialised tool for removing the drive flange from the front axle hub. This conical puller is placed over the flange and extracts the flange from the axle spindle by means of a central bolt, providing access to the axle nuts and wheel bearings.

Material

Steel

Type

Conical puller

Application

Front axle flange removal

Original part number

A-1339 (GPW)

Features

  • Half-conical shape fitting over hub flange
  • Central threaded opening for pressure bolt
  • Lip on underside grips behind flange
  • Indispensable for wheel bearing and seal maintenance
  • Reproduction to original design

★ Essential workshop tool for front axle maintenance. Prevents damage to flange and axle spindle during disassembly.

Application

Used for removing the drive flange on the front axle of WWII military jeeps. After removing the spindle nuts, the puller is placed over the flange. By threading a bolt through the central hole, it presses against the axle face and pulls the flange from the axle spindle.

Installation notes

First remove the spindle nuts using a hub nut spanner (A-692). Place the puller over the flange with the lip gripping behind the flange edge. Thread a suitable bolt through the central opening until it contacts the axle face. Further tightening gradually pulls the flange from the spindle.

Compatibility

Specifically designed for the front axle of WWII jeeps. Not suitable for rear axles (for these, square puller bolts were threaded into the hub itself). Note: this is a different tool from the hub nut spanner (A-692), which is required for the first step of disassembly.

Historical context

Originally issued as standard motorpool tool under ordnance number #41-P-2962-700. Ford GPW versions were marked with script 'F' and part number A-1339.
