Oil pump gasket set chain drive engine

For L-134 Go Devil engine with chain drive

Complete gasket set for the oil pump of the early Willys L-134 'Go Devil' engine with chain drive as fitted in WWII Willys MB and Ford GPW. This set contains all necessary gaskets for the overhaul of the oil pump on engines with the original timing chain configuration.

Engine type

L-134 chain drive

Application

Oil pump

Vehicle

Willys MB, Ford GPW, Hotchkiss M201

Version

Early model (1941-1945)

Features

  • Complete gasket set for oil pump overhaul
  • For L-134 engine with chain drive camshaft
  • Original specification gaskets
  • Essential for oil pump maintenance
  • Suitable for early MB, GPW and early CJ-2A

★ This gasket set is specifically designed for the early chain drive engine version. Please note: not suitable for later engines with gear drive.

Application

Suitable for Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), Hotchkiss M201 early models and early CJ-2A (1946, up to chassis number 44417). These vehicles have the L-134 'Go Devil' engine with timing chain drive for the camshaft. From 1946/1947 onwards, production changed to gear drive, which requires different gaskets.

Installation notes

Check beforehand whether your engine has chain drive (remove timing chain cover). The oil pump on chain drive engines has a right-hand helical gear drive. Thoroughly clean all gasket surfaces before fitting. Ensure correct sealing — irregularities in the surface can cause leaks.

Compatibility

ONLY for L-134 engine with chain drive camshaft. NOT suitable for gear drive engines (late CJ-2A from 1946, CJ-3A, CJ-3B, M38, M38A1). Check whether your engine has chain or gear drive — this is a critical difference. The oil pump part numbers are different: chain drive = 637636, gear drive = 804484.

Historical context

The early Willys MB and Ford GPW WWII jeeps used a timing chain for the camshaft drive of the robust L-134 'Go Devil' engine. From mid-1946, Willys changed to a direct gear drive, which was more reliable and required less maintenance. The Hotchkiss M201, built under licence in France, remained faithful to the chain configuration in early versions.
