Oil filter bracket grommet

Rubber grommet for oil supply line

Rubber grommet that protects the oil supply line through the oil filter bracket on the passenger side of the cylinder head. This small but essential component prevents wear of the oil supply hose and ensures a neat passage through the hole in the bracket.

Material

Rubber

Function

Oil supply line passage

Application

Oil filter bracket

Engine type

L-134 Go Devil

Features

  • Protects oil supply line against wear
  • Fits in oil filter bracket hole
  • Rubber construction to original Willys specification
  • Small but essential component for correct assembly
  • Prevents metal-to-metal contact

★ Reproduction of the original rubber grommet as applied on Willys MB production. Ford GPW used felt instead of rubber, but rubber is functionally superior.

Application

For jeeps with external canister-type oil filter (Purolator/Fram) mounted on bracket on passenger side of cylinder head. Used on L-134 engines with chain-driven camshaft (early MB/GPW 1941-1945, M201, early CJ-2A until circa 1948) and gear-driven camshaft (late CJ-2A, CJ-3A, M38, early CJ-3B with L-134).

Installation notes

The grommet is placed in the forward hole of the oil filter bracket through which the oil supply line runs from the 90° fitting behind the fuel pump to the oil filter canister. Fit the grommet before installing the oil supply line. Note: Willys used rubber, Ford used felt — rubber is more durable.

Compatibility

NOT suitable for F-134 engines (late CJ-3B, M38A1) which use a different oil filter bracket and mounting method. Also not for jeeps without external canister oil filter. Difference between early and late L-134 engines lies in camshaft drive (chain vs gear), but oil filter system is identical.

Historical context

The external canister oil filter was standard on all WWII MB/GPW jeeps and was mounted on a steel bracket fitted under three cylinder head bolts on the passenger side. These brackets are notorious for frequently cracking due to vibration and stress from the oil filter canister.
