★ Quality pistons for professional engine overhaul. Essential component during engine rebuild when cylinders are bored to first oversized dimension.

Application

These oversized pistons are used during engine overhaul when the cylinders have been bored or honed to 0.010" oversized. Important: cylinder diameter must be precisely matched to piston size. Piston-to-cylinder clearance must be between 0.0015" and 0.0020" (0.038-0.051 mm). Have a skilled engine machinist bore the cylinders with the pistons available to guarantee correct fitting.

Installation notes

CRITICAL: provide these pistons to the engine machinist before the cylinders are bored. The cylinders must be bored and honed with the pistons available to ensure correct piston clearance of 0.0015-0.0020". Piston pins are press fit in the piston. Check piston pin clearance in connecting rod: 0.0003-0.0010".

Compatibility

Note: the L-134 engine has different variants. Early models (MB, GPW, early CJ-2A) have chain-driven camshaft, later models (late CJ-2A, CJ-3A, M38, CJ-3B) have gear-driven camshaft. These pistons fit both variants. Not compatible with F-134 Hurricane engine (higher cylinder heads). Available oversizes for overhaul: standard, +0.010", +0.020", +0.030", +0.040", +0.060".

Historical context

The Willys L-134 'Go Devil' engine was the powerful four-cylinder flathead engine that powered nearly all American and Allied jeeps during WWII. Developed by chief engineer Delmar 'Barney' Roos, this robust engine remained in production until the early 1950s across various jeep models.
