Installation notes

During installation, compress the valve spring retainer using a spring compressor and fit both halves of the lock into the groove in the valve stem. Check after installation that the locks are fully seated in the groove and the retainer is securely held. 16 locks are required per engine (8 per valve pair).

Compatibility

Specific to L-134 flathead engine with side-valves. Not to be confused with the locks for the F-134 Hurricane engine which has rotating exhaust valves with different retainer locks.

Historical context

The split valve lock was standard on the L-134 Go Devil engine produced from 1941 to 1953. This simple yet effective locking system proved reliable enough for military applications under extreme conditions during WWII.
