★ Replaces original exhaust valves for the iconic Go Devil L-134 flathead engine. Suitable for various applications from 1941 to the early 1950s.

Application

Suitable for vehicles with L-134 flathead engine (1941-1953): Willys MB (1941-1945), M38 (1950-1952), CJ-2A (1945-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953), DJ-3A (1955-1961), Pick-up Truck (1946-1949), Station Wagon (1946-1949), Jeepster VJ (1948-1949), Sedan Delivery (1948-1949). Also suitable for Hotchkiss M201.

Installation notes

Check valve clearance with cold engine: 0.014" (0.36 mm) for both inlet and exhaust. When replacing valves, valve guides and spring retainers must be inspected. Ensure the camshaft is in the correct position (fully closed valve) during adjustment. Sidevalve construction: access via side cover on engine block.

Compatibility

ONLY for L-134 flathead (L-head, sidevalve) engines. NOT suitable for F-134 overhead valve (F-head Hurricane) engines – these use different valves with different dimensions and retainer configuration. Compatible with both chain-driven (early MB/GPW) and gear-driven (late CJ-2A, CJ-3A, M38) camshaft versions.

Historical context

The Willys L-134 Go Devil engine was developed by chief engineer Barney Roos and became legendary in the Willys MB and Ford GPW during WWII. This robust flathead engine remained the standard powertrain for military and civilian Jeeps until the early 1950s, when it was replaced by the more powerful F-134 Hurricane overhead valve engine.
