Application
Suitable for vehicles with L-134 flathead engine and downdraft carburettor (Carter WO or Solex). Used in combination with rubber sealing sleeve (A-17318) which is secured with clamps around the air horn and top of the carburettor.
Installation notes
Secured with clamps: at the bottom on the carburettor opening (approx. 4" diameter) and at the top on the crossover tube. Ensure correct placement of the rubber seal between air horn and carburettor. Tighten clamps evenly to prevent leaks. Check for air leaks around the connections after installation.
Compatibility
Fits all L-134 engines with downdraft carburettor (Carter WO-539S, 698S, or Solex). NOTE: M38 vehicles often had a different carburettor/air filter configuration from the factory - check whether your M38 has been converted to downdraft Carter/Solex before ordering this part.
Historical context
The Carter WO-539S downdraft carburettor was standard on WWII MB and GPW jeeps. The metal air horn connected the carburettor to the oil-bath air filter via a crossover tube and rubber seal system.
