★ Accurate reproduction of the early crossover tube for GPW with the characteristic flat 'pancake' air cleaner from the initial production period.
Application
Specific to early Ford GPW models (approx. November 1941 - March 1942, serial numbers approx. 100001 to 124308) which were fitted with the early flat 'pancake' air cleaner. This type of air cleaner was used in the very first production period, before changing to the larger cylindrical oil-bath air cleaner.
Installation notes
The tube is fitted between the pancake air cleaner and the air horn on the carburettor. Please note: the early system has a different bracket height than later versions. The tube has an opening for the spark plug lead which runs underneath.
Compatibility
Only suitable for early GPW with pancake air cleaner. NOT compatible with later GPW models which from February 1943 had a crossover tube with ventilation connection (serial number 208737 and higher). Also not compatible with the mid-type or late-type cylindrical oil-bath air cleaner.
Historical context
The flat 'pancake' air cleaner was the very first version on the Willys MB and Ford GPW, produced from November 1941 to March 1942. This simple oil-bath filter was soon replaced by more robust systems better suited to the harsh battlefield conditions.
