★ Rebuild kits are excellent, but don't always restore an old carburettor to full working condition after 70+ years. This NOS housing offers the solution when the original body is too far worn.
Application
This carburettor housing fits post-war Carter WO carburettors as fitted to Willys CJ-2A and CJ-3A jeeps (±1945-1953). Also suitable for M38 if the inlet system has been modified for a Carter WO carburettor.
Installation notes
Before fitting, check that your jeep engine is correctly adjusted: ignition, distributor contact points, spark plugs. The housing is supplied with jets and plugs already installed. Don't forget to use a new carburettor gasket (diffuser gasket). A new carburettor will not solve other engine problems.
Compatibility
Please note: WWII 539S carburettors have 8 patent numbers on the float bowl, post-war versions (636S/698S) often have 12 patent numbers. The main body itself is largely interchangeable between different Carter WO variants, but minor differences in linkage and connection may occur. Check that the housing matches your specific carburettor model.
Historical context
The Carter WO carburettor was developed during WWII for the Willys MB and Ford GPW and remained in production after the war for civilian CJ models. Carter manufactured these robust downdraft carburettors for more than 30 years until the 1980s.
