★ Reproduction fuel tank for Ford GPW with correct F-marking as Ford applied to GPW components. Supplied with extended filler tube with strainer (A1472).
Application
Suitable for Ford GPW from early 1943 until end of production 1945. The large neck version with extended filler tube replaced the earlier small neck version from approximately January-February 1943. Also usable on Willys MB from the same period, though the F-marking is not historically entirely correct (Willys MB did not have Ford marking).
Installation notes
Tank mounts beneath the driver's seat with original tank straps and brackets. Ensure correct placement of felt anti-rattle strips between tank and body. The extended filler tube is pulled upwards after removing the cap and rotated clockwise to lock in place during fuelling.
Compatibility
Please note: this is the LATE version (large neck). For early Ford GPW (until November 1942) and early Willys MB (until early 1943) the small neck version with narrow filler opening is correct. The large filler opening has a diameter of approximately 3.5 inches and requires a large fuel cap (A6333), the early version has an opening of 2 7/8 inches. Ford GPW tanks have F-marking, Willys MB tanks do not.
Historical context
Ford marked virtually all components with the characteristic 'F' logo during production of 277,896 GPW jeeps, including fuel tanks. The transition from small neck to large neck took place in early 1943 to facilitate refuelling under field conditions.
