Complete exhaust manifold with heat riser

For Willys L-134 engine

Complete exhaust manifold in raw cast iron for the 134ci L-head Go Devil engine. Supplied with heat riser valve, bi-metallic spring and counterweight — ready to fit without welding. The manifold is finished unpainted as original.

Material

Raw cast iron, unpainted

Engine

Willys 134ci L-head (Go Devil)

Application

Willys MB, Ford GPW, Hotchkiss M201, CJ-3A, M38

Kit contents

Manifold, heat riser valve, bi-metallic spring, counterweight

Features

  • Complete with heat riser mechanism and bi-metallic spring
  • No welding required — direct fitment
  • Raw cast iron as original
  • Heat riser assists cold starting and warm-up
  • Suitable for chain and gear-driven L-134 engines

★ This manifold is supplied unpainted in raw cast iron. After use, rust will appear — this is normal for cast iron. For protection against rust, the manifold may be treated with very high-temperature paint (suitable for wood-burning stoves or barbecues).

Application

Suitable for Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), Hotchkiss M201 (1952-1966), Willys CJ-3A (1949-1953) and M38 (1950-1952) — all vehicles with the Willys 134ci L-head Go Devil engine. Fits both early chain-driven and late gear-driven L-134 variants.

Installation notes

Fit the manifold with new gaskets. Ensure correct heat riser assembly: turn the flap shaft fully clockwise, fit the bi-metallic spring so the outer end rests on the stop. The counterweight keeps the spring against the stop. Use anti-seize on fasteners. Check torque settings after initial heat cycles.

Compatibility

NOT suitable for F-head engines (M38A1, CJ-3B, late CJ-5) — these require a different manifold without heat riser. Verify whether your engine is an L-134 (flathead, valves in block) or F-134 (overhead intake valves). L-head intake and exhaust manifolds form one integrated assembly; F-head has separate manifolds.

Historical context

The heat riser mechanism was standard on all L-134 Go Devil engines. The bi-metallic spring closes the valve when the engine is cold, directing exhaust gases along the intake riser to help vaporise fuel. As the engine warms up, the spring automatically opens the valve.
