★ Manufactured according to original blueprints for correct fitment and authenticity. Suitable for restorations of early production vehicles.

Application

Used on Willys MB and Ford GPW from start of production until approximately April-May 1942 (MB serial numbers up to approximately 134000-160000). From mid-1942, the round muffler was replaced by the oval version. Suitable for authentic restorations of early slat grille and early script jeeps.

Installation notes

Uses the same mounting points on the body as the oval muffler. Requires special round clamps (instead of oval clamps). Front mounting via carriage bolt through front floor cover; rear mounting via bracket with pressed-in nut. Rubber mounting straps are identical to oval system.

Compatibility

Specific for early MB/GPW production until mid-1942. NOT compatible with late production jeeps that originally came with oval muffler. CJ-2A and later civilian models used a different version. Note: this system sounds different and becomes progressively louder due to burning out of the filling (glasspack principle).

Historical context

The round muffler was the first exhaust muffler used on the earliest Willys MB and Ford GPW jeeps in 1941-early 1942. From April-May 1942, it was replaced by the oval version which was produced until the end of the war.
