★ This cylinder head stud is manufactured to original military specifications and provides the reliability required for correct cylinder head attachment.

Application

This short stud is suitable for Ford GPA (amphibious vehicle), Ford GPW, Willys MA and Willys MB vehicles with L-134 engine. From MB serial number 288835 onwards, the system changed from cylinder head bolts to studs with nuts. Multiple short studs are required per cylinder head in combination with long studs — verify the configuration of your specific engine.

Installation notes

Install the short stud with the coarse thread (14 NC) into the engine block. Always use thread sealer on the block side to prevent coolant leakage. The fine thread (20 NF) is for the cylinder head nut. Torque to specified value (60-70 lb/ft) and re-torque after initial running hours to ensure proper gasket seal.

Compatibility

Please note: not all L-134 engines use the same cylinder head attachment system. Early MB/GPW engines (up to serial number MB288835) used cylinder head bolts instead of studs. From that serial number onwards, the system changed to a combination of studs and nuts. Verify the original configuration of your engine before ordering.

Historical context

From mid-1943 onwards, Willys changed from cylinder head bolts to a system with studs and nuts for improved reliability and easier maintenance of the L-134 engine.
