Application
This shroud is designed for early Ford GPW radiators with 3-row core (as opposed to later 2-row versions). Primarily used in GPW production from 1942 to early 1943. Please note: not compatible with later 2-row radiators or standard MB Willys shrouds without verification.
Installation notes
The shroud is mounted on the radiator itself and must fit over the fan blades. Attachment is by soldered or bolted connections, depending on radiator type. Check before fitting that dimensions correspond with your specific 3-row radiator. Ensure sufficient clearance around the fan to avoid contact.
Compatibility
Specific to early Ford GPW radiators with 3-row core. Not suitable for later 2-row radiators which are more commonly found. Ford GPW shrouds differ in design from Willys MB shrouds — verify that your radiator is the GPW type before ordering. If in doubt: measure the radiator core and count the number of cooling tube rows.
Historical context
During early GPW production (1942-1943), Ford used radiators with a 3-row core for improved cooling capacity. Later in the war, production switched to 2-row cores with improved fin density. This shroud is essential for proper airflow and contributes to the characteristic cooling performance of the original configuration.
