★ Quality overhaul part for the restoration of 6V Auto-Lite generators. The bearing is already fitted in the drive end head for quick and correct installation.
Installation notes
The drive end head is secured with two long screws running through the entire generator. The ball bearing is already press-fitted in the head. Remove the pulley and woodruff key from the armature shaft first before dismantling the old drive end head. During installation: do not use a hammer directly on the head — tap gently on a wooden block to prevent damage.
Compatibility
Fits Auto-Lite 6V generators with ball bearing design at the drive end. NOTE: some early Auto-Lite models (such as GEG-5101D) have a bronze bushing on the pulley side instead of a ball bearing — check your generator before ordering. Most later models (such as GEG-5002D) have ball bearings on both sides (type 203FF sealed). The commutator end (rear) always has a ball bearing with dust cover.
Historical context
Auto-Lite was the standard supplier of electrical components for WWII jeeps and early civilian Willys models. The 6V generators were manufactured by Auto-Lite themselves and under licence by Ford.
