Application
Suitable for 6V Auto-Lite generators as fitted to Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), and the civilian successors CJ-2A, CJ-3A and CJ-3B. Fits various GEG models, including GEG-5002D and GEG-5101D.
Installation notes
Remove the generator from the vehicle for overhaul. Always replace both bearings, even if one appears serviceable. Use sealed bearings (203FF) on the drive end — these require no additional lubrication. Clean the commutator thoroughly before fitting new brushes. Polarise the generator after installation by briefly connecting BAT+ to the Field terminal.
Compatibility
Please note: early GEG-5001A models used open bearings with oil holes; later GEG-5002D use sealed bearings without oil holes. Check your generator type before starting. This kit is intended for the most common Auto-Lite 6V models. Not suitable for 12V or other makes such as Delco-Remy.
Historical context
Auto-Lite GEG series generators were standard equipment on WWII Willys and Ford jeeps. The later sealed bearing version (5002D) replaced the earlier models with oil holes midway through the war, making maintenance simpler.
