This kit is intended for overhauling 6 volt Auto-Lite generators such as the GEG series, which were fitted to WWII military vehicles with 6V electrical systems. Suitable for complete overhaul where the dynamo is dismantled, cleaned and rebuilt with new wear parts.
Installation notes
Installation requires dismantling of the dynamo. When dismantling, check the condition of the armature and the field coil. Measure the resistance of the field coil (nominally approx. 5 ohms for GEG types). Ensure proper earthing between dynamo and voltage regulator after installation. Polarise the dynamo after installation by briefly connecting the positive terminal of the battery to the field terminal (F) on the dynamo.
Compatibility
Please note: this kit is specific to 6 volt generators. Not suitable for 12 volt systems. Check the type number of your dynamo (e.g. GEG-5002, GEG-5101, GDZ series) before ordering. Auto-Lite generators had different dimensions between front and rear (6" for GEG, 6 11/16" for GDZ). Not compatible with Delco-Remy or Prestolite dynamos unless otherwise stated.
