Circuit breaker 15 ampere

Thermal automatic reset

Thermal circuit breaker with 15 ampere capacity for electrical system protection. This safety component protects the horn circuit against overload and short circuits by automatically interrupting the circuit when subjected to excessive load.

Type

Thermal circuit breaker, automatic reset

Capacity

15 ampere

Voltage

6V systems

Application

Horn circuit

Features

  • 15 ampere capacity
  • Thermal automatic reset function
  • Protection against overload and short circuits
  • Mounted behind the dashboard
  • Compatible with 6V electrical systems

★ Essential safety component for protecting the electrical system against short circuits and overload.

Application

This 15 ampere circuit breaker is mounted behind the dashboard on a bracket, between the ammeter and the horn. The component specifically protects the horn circuit. On military jeeps, two circuit breakers were used: a 5 ampere for the fuel gauge and ignition switch, and this 15 ampere for the horn.

Installation notes

Mounted on bracket behind the centre of the dashboard, visible from the passenger footwell. The circuit breaker is in series between the voltage regulator side of the ammeter and the horn. In case of overload, the thermal protection automatically interrupts the current and resets itself after cooling down.

Compatibility

Suitable for vehicles with 6V electrical system. Civilian models CJ-2A and CJ-3A used a similar configuration to the military MB/GPW. Note: M38 and M38A1 used a different type of circuit breaker configuration with 25-30 ampere breakers mounted on the battery box.

Historical context

Circuit breakers were fitted to military jeeps during WWII as fire prevention. Unlike disposable fuses, these thermal breakers reset automatically after cooling down, a practical advantage in field conditions.
