★ Correct reproduction for restoration of early Willys MB Slat Grille jeeps built between November 1941 and March 1942. Only 25,808 slat grille jeeps were produced before Willys switched to the stamped steel grille.
Application
Specifically for Willys MB with slat grille (serial numbers MB100001 to MB125809, production 18 November 1941 to 6 March 1942). Early slat grille jeeps had distinctive instruments: a 30/30 ammeter, a speedometer with 5 mph increments (King-Seeley 40355) and a fuel gauge with inscription 'GAS' instead of 'FUEL'.
Installation notes
The ammeter is mounted in the dashboard with two connections at the rear. Driver's side terminal: wire from BAT connection voltage regulator plus wires to ignition switch and light switch. Passenger's side terminal: positive battery cable from floor starter switch plus wire to horn circuit breaker. For some production periods, wires run via filterette on bulkhead or terminal block.
Compatibility
ONLY for early Willys MB with slat grille. NOT compatible with later stamped grille MB/GPW models which used a 50 ampere meter (WO-8186). Ford GPW had different instrumentation from the start of production (March 1942). Note: reproduction meters are often suitable for both 6V and 12V conversions, check specifications during installation.
Historical context
Of the 361,339 Willys MBs produced during WWII, only 25,808 examples were fitted with the slat grille. These early jeeps had unique features including the 30/30 ammeter, part of the 6 volt electrical system with generator and voltage regulator.
