★ High-quality reproduction of the early Ford GPW ignition switch with the characteristic ribbed retaining ring that distinguishes Ford GPW from Willys MB versions.
Application
Originally fitted to Ford GPW vehicles from start of production (1941) until January 1943, after which they changed to keyless lever-type version as on most military vehicles of that period.
Installation notes
Please note: early keyed switches require a smaller dashboard bore than late keyless switches. The switch must be fully painted in Olive Drab as per original. Mount with felt gasket between switch and dashboard to prevent moisture ingress.
Compatibility
Specific to Ford GPW early-type. Not interchangeable with Willys MB switch without modification — Ford GPW has ribbed retaining ring, Willys MB has smooth ring with two dimples. Keyless switches (late-type GPW3686B from January 1943 onwards) have different bore.
Historical context
Ford GPW used from the beginning an ignition switch with characteristic ribbed retaining ring. In early 1943, as with most military vehicles, they switched from key-operated to keyless toggle-type for simplicity and cost reduction during wartime production.
