Application
Suitable for vehicles with Dana 18 transfer case equipped with a transfer case mounted parking brake (emergency brake setup). Applications according to product categories: Willys MB and Ford GPW (1941-1945), Hotchkiss M201, CJ-2A (1945-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953), CJ-3B (1953-1964), M38 (1950-1952) and M38A1 (1952-1966).
Installation notes
The flange is secured to the output shaft with a castle nut (3/4-20 thread for early models). Torque specification: 100-120 ft-lbs. Note: on vehicles with parking brake, the flange is integrated with the brake drum. Always use a new oil seal and felt seal during installation. Lubricate the shaft before installation.
Compatibility
Only for Dana 18 transfer cases with rear-mounted parking brake. Not suitable for vehicles without parking brake on the transfer case. The flange has 10 splines and fits on the rear output shaft. For the front output, a different yoke is used (A-1106). Note: early Dana 18 (1941-1946 MB/GPW/early CJ-2A) has a 3/4" intermediate shaft, later versions (1946+) have a 1-1/8" or 1-1/4" intermediate shaft.
Historical context
The Dana Spicer 18 transfer case was introduced in 1941 for the Willys MB and Ford GPW and was the first production transfer case for four-wheel drive vehicles. This companion flange with integrated parking brake was characteristic of military and early civilian Jeep models until the early 1970s.
