Features

  • Complete assembled set
  • Replacement part for Dana 18 transfer case
  • For speedometer transmission
  • Fixing screw included
  • Suitable for post-war civilian models

★ Correct reproduction for restoring speedometer function in your Dana 18 transfer case. Set contains both components required for professional installation.

Application

Suitable for post-war civilian Jeep models with Dana 18 transfer case. Please note: military models MB, GPW and some M38/M38A1 variants may use a different speedometer cable connection. Check your transfer case version before ordering.

Installation notes

The gear mounts on the rear output shaft, on the outside of the rear bearing cap. The lock screw prevents the gear from shifting during operation. Installation is carried out after removal of the rear yoke. Ensure the gear is correctly positioned before tightening the lock screw.

Compatibility

Only suitable for Dana 18 transfer cases from post-war civilian models (CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-3B, M38, M38A1). NOT compatible with the military MB/GPW speedometer connection. Different gear versions with different tooth counts (18, 19, 20, 22 teeth) were originally used — check which version you require based on your drivetrain and tyre size.

Historical context

The Dana Spicer 18 transfer case was used in military Jeeps from 1941 onwards and remained the standard transfer case in civilian Willys and Jeep models until 1971. The mechanical speedometer system with gear drive remained standard until the introduction of electronic speedometers.
