Features

★ High-quality reproduction with correct length and tapered end for trouble-free fitting on Dana 44 rear axles with 10-spline differential.

Application

Fits CJ-2A (1946-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953), CJ-3B (1953-1964), CJ-5 (1955-1971), M38 (1950-1952) and M38A1 (1953-1971) equipped with Dana 41 or Dana 44 semi-floating rear axle with 10-spline differential and tapered axle shafts.

Installation notes

Remove axle cap, axle nut, wheel hub (use puller), brake backing plate and bearing retainer. Carefully pull axle shaft outwards — mind the adjustment shims behind the bearing retainer, these are essential for correct axle end float. Torque axle nut after fitting to 150-175 lb-ft (200-235 Nm).

Compatibility

NOT compatible with 19-spline Dana 44 axle shafts (as used in some later years). NOT compatible with Dana 44 flanged axles (from 1969/1970 on some CJ models). Check the number of splines on your differential before ordering — this part is exclusively for 10-spline design.

Historical context

The Dana 44 semi-floating rear axle with tapered axle shafts was introduced in 1950 as a heavier-duty option to the Dana 41. This construction was used until 1971, when Jeep switched to flanged axle shafts with 30 splines for improved strength.
