★ Professional hub locking kit for restoration and modification of classic military vehicles. Enables selectable four-wheel drive.

Application

Suitable for vehicles listed in the product categories and equipped with Dana 25 or Dana 27 front axles with 10-spline axle shafts and 6-bolt mounting flange. Please note: Willys MB and Ford GPW from 1941-1945 have original threaded axle shafts (Bendix type) — for these vehicles, modified axle shafts or special 'long' hubs are required. CJ-2A (early version until approximately late 1949) also has threaded shaft ends. Later CJ models (late CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-3B, M38, M38A1, CJ-5) have non-threaded axle shafts and are directly compatible.

Installation notes

Remove the original hub cap and verify that the axle shafts are 10-spline (not 27-spline from later models). For vehicles with threaded axle shafts: use special 'long' hubs or replace the axle shafts with non-threaded CJ-type Bendix axles. Mount the hub with gasket onto the 6-bolt flange, tighten bolts in a cross pattern to specification. Check free operation of the locking mechanism before use.

Compatibility

CAUTION: not all vehicles use the same axle shaft configuration. MB/GPW (1941-1945) and early CJ-2A have Bendix axles with threaded shaft ends — these require modification or special hubs. Late CJ-2A (from serial number approx. 37549, December 1949), CJ-3A, CJ-3B, M38, M38A1 and CJ-5 have non-threaded Bendix or Spicer axles and are directly compatible. Always verify the axle shaft type (threaded/non-threaded) and number of splines (10 or 27) before ordering. This kit is for 10-spline configuration — later models with 27-spline require different hubs.

Historical context

Manual locking hubs (lockout hubs) became popular from the 1950s onwards as an aftermarket modification for civilian and surplus military jeeps. They enabled owners to disconnect the front axles during road use, reducing fuel consumption and wear whilst extending the service life of drivetrain components.
