★ High-quality oil seal manufactured to original specifications. Made from oil-resistant NBR rubber with full metal jacket construction for long-lasting performance.
Application
This pinion seal fits Dana 25 front axles (MB, GPW, CJ-2A, CJ-3A, M38, M38A1, CJ-3B), Dana 27 front axles (late CJ-3B), Dana 41 rear axles (CJ-2A), and Dana 44 rear axles (CJ-3A, M38, M38A1, CJ-3B). Willys original part number: WO639265.
Installation notes
Remove the propeller shaft and loosen the pinion flange. Remove the old seal carefully to avoid damaging the housing. Lightly grease the new seal and drive it in straight and flat until fully seated. Check the condition of the pinion flange — grooves or wear will cause leakage. Set the pinion bearing preload correctly after installation.
Compatibility
Please note: this is a closed-back seal. For open-back version see part number 998092. Check which type was originally fitted. Not compatible with later Dana 30 axles used on CJ-5/CJ-6 from the early 1970s onwards.
Historical context
Dana supplied the robust axles for military Jeeps from 1941 onwards. The Dana 25/27 design with its characteristic fully floating construction proved its reliability in WWII and Korea, and remained in production well into the 1960s for civilian Jeep models.
