Hypoid differential oil 1 litre

SAE 80W-90 or 90 EP GL-5

High-quality hypoid differential oil for front and rear axles of WWII military vehicles. Contains extreme pressure (EP) additives for optimal protection of hypoid gear transmissions under heavy loads. Suitable for use in spiral bevel and hypoid differentials.

Viscosity

SAE 80W-90 or 90 EP

Specification

API GL-5

Application

Front and rear axle differentials

Content

1 litre

Features

  • Extreme pressure (EP) additives for hypoid gears
  • Protection against wear under high loads
  • Temperature resistant for varying conditions
  • Protective oil film prevents metal-to-metal contact
  • Suitable for heavy-duty applications

★ Specially formulated gear oil with EP additives for the demanding conditions of military vehicles with hypoid differentials.

Application

Front and rear axles of military vehicles equipped with hypoid differentials. The hypoid design (pinion gear below the centre of the crown wheel) always requires EP oil due to the sliding motion between tooth flanks in addition to rolling contact.

Installation notes

Fill the differential until the fill level is reached (fluid runs out of fill plug opening). Always check first whether the fill plug can be unscrewed before draining the differential. For limited slip differentials, a friction modifier additive may be required - test by taking a tight corner: if the rear axle chatters, additive is required.

Compatibility

Suitable for vehicles requiring SAE 80W-90 or 90 EP oil with API GL-5 specification. DO NOT use in gearboxes with synchromesh or systems with soft metals such as brass or bronze. For military applications where MIL-L 2105 C or D is specified.

Historical context

Hypoid differentials were introduced in the 1930s and required the development of special EP oils. This technology became standard on military vehicles from WWII onwards due to its more compact design and higher load capacity.
