Installation notes
The plug is located on the underside of the differential housing — beware of potential damage during off-road use due to low ground clearance. When replacing: clean the thread thoroughly and use sealant or PTFE tape if necessary for a leak-free seal. Check the plug regularly for wear or damage.
Compatibility
ONLY suitable for Dana axles with drain plug on the underside of the differential housing. Not all Dana 44 variants have a drain plug — later models only have a filler plug and require removal of the differential cover for oil draining. Check whether your axle has a drain opening at the bottom before ordering this part.
Historical context
The Dana 25, 27, 41 and 44 axles formed the standard equipment for military jeeps and early CJ models. The drain plug at the bottom of the differential housing was a practical feature for straightforward maintenance in the field, particularly important for military use during WWII.
